Hooghuis, Inc. is a Lloyd's Correspondent and Underwriting Management firm that underwrites risks on behalf of Certain Underwriters at Lloyd's of London. Hooghuis, Inc. is not a brokerage. We underwrite risks. We provide an excellent domestic conduit to Lloyd’s. We have underwriting authority for numerous lines of business and types of risks. Claims are generally handled by Mendes & Mount LLP, an 85 year old firm specializing in insurance and reinsurance law (www.mendes.com). Hooghuis, Inc. writes a significant book of business with Lloyd's and therefore we are in good position to pass along volume based discounted rates to our producers. We are not always the cheapest quote but our hit ratio is excellent. Brokers that do business with Hooghuis, Inc. can avoid some of the frustration arising out of the time difference doing business directly with London. Our turnaround time is excellent. Although we need to consult with Lloyd's on certain higher risk classes and exposures our business gets top priority based on our volume and special relationship.
