Mr. Hooghuis is currently the President of Hooghuis, Inc. which was established in 1996. Hooghuis, Inc. underwrites D&O and E&O on behalf of various syndicates in Lloyd’s of London. In addition to its core business of D&O, Mr. Hooghuis diversified the operation with a successful launch of a miscellaneous E&O program in 1999. Hooghuis, Inc.'s 12 employees are located in Mineola, New York and Farmington, Connecticut.

Prior to Hooghuis, Inc. Mr. Hooghuis successfully managed two profitable start up D&O facilities. In 1992 Mr. Hooghuis started up a specialty D&O unit for Reliance National, focusing on middle-market D&O with an emphasis on technology, life science and IPO business.

Immediately prior to Reliance, Mr. Hooghuis managed a book of specialty D&O business for the Home Insurance Company. He joined the Home in 1986 after graduating law school and being admitted to both the New York and Connecticut bars. Mr. Hooghuis’ legal background has proved to be quite useful and effective in identifying, analyzing and addressing legal liabilities and exposures. During his tenure, the Home wrote a significant book of D&O business. Although the market had softened considerably between 1986 and 1992, Mr. Hooghuis was able to repeat his success at Reliance. He differentiated himself in the market with superior risk selection skills, technical expertise, work ethic and a loyal producer base. His consistent approach to the business and excellent results have earned Mr. Hooghuis a loyal following in the reinsurance community.
